MAKING MAIL FUN AGAIN

In early 2020, as things were looking not so good, I wanted to find a way to have some fun, and to also share that fun with other folks. With some help from friends and family I decided to not only share my work but also do it in a way that brings light to something I feel is vital and important to people and especially fellow independent artists such as myself, the mail! There was a lot of talk and actions taken to undermine and hamper the postal service and while it’s not perfect it is important so I wanted to use it!

The idea for postcards was one that I felt not only would allow me to create new and fun illustrations, but also print them for fans of my work and friends who may enjoy them. By making them postcards as well as prints I could give them function along with just looking neat. All of my artcards have a printed back with space to place a stamp, fill in a recipients address and write a nice message. I felt that when you’re younger, getting something in the mail addressed to you was amazing! It was mysterious and cool, it could be anything! But as we get older that excitement wanes as we are inundated with bills and other junk mail, so I wanted to bring some of the fun back and give folks a way to pass it along.

SO WHAT IS IT EXACTLY?

Each month I will venture out and create a brand new, original illustration. These illustrations contain my own original characters, concepts and ideas. I will share thumbnails and rough sketches with patrons as I proceed through the process of making the month’s art and when it’s all done the 5x7” artcard prints are ordered. After a couple weeks I get the cards in hand, package them up with the vinyl sticker for the month (also an original piece I do each month) and mail them out to all the folks who’ve subscribed to any of the art mail tiers.

Patrons receive the 5x7” prints and 3x3” stickers in the mail and can frame or mail out the postcard prints, slap the stickers on a notebook or bottle and have some fun art to cheer them up if they ever need it.

I am extremely fortunate in that so many lovely folks have chosen to support me in this endeavor and allow me to not only create new stuff to put out into the world, but to support an independent artist and their wholly original creations and ideas. So thank you to all my patrons, past, present and future. I would not be creating all these weird and wonderful things without you!
